Officiating Through Adversity

Related Scripture: Romans 8:18

“During this time now, we have troubles and pain. But I am sure that these troubles are not really very great. One day God will show us all the great things he has prepared for us. That will make the troubles that we have now seem very small.”

A season of officiating can bring out the good and the bad. I’m sure that if you look back over the years, you can find specific games that you worked that were amazing. For me it was a second round playoff game that went into double overtime, and ended with a great defensive play on 4th and Goal. But it also brings back some bad memories. Like many of you, working the large number of football games year after year, it takes its toll on your body. We all deal with sore muscles, aching joints, and physical exhaustion. But what happens when that nagging pain turns into a serious injury that ends your season and possibly your officiating career?

In life, we know there will be good times and bad times. God knows that as well. The good news is that once you except Christ as your Savior, he has a place ready and waiting on you. There will be no more aches and pains.

Question to Ponder:

How do you deal with adversity, like the aches and pains that are a part of getting older, as well as the punishment that our bodies take every year of officiating?

As a Christian, do you ever look out into the future and know that one day, all of this we be over and we will never suffer again?

Stay Strong and God Bless!!
