Related Scripture: Daniel 3:17-18
“If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to save us from it, and he will rescue us from your hand, O king. But even if he does not, we want you to know, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up.”
I love the story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego and seeing their extreme bold faith. They are brought in front of King Nebuchadnezzar and given an ultimatum, serve his gods and live or be thrown into a fiery furnace and die. The verses above make it real clear they believed God could save them. But their response shows that they weren’t wavering in their commitment to God, even though it could mean losing their lives. See they believed God could save them but they were boldly making a claim that even if God chose not to save them, it didn’t change who God was and is to them and it applies to us today.
We know that God showed up in a big way for these three men, and He does the same for us. However, I often find myself praying for God to keep me from the fiery furnace but sometimes God says I will be with you in the fiery furnace. Because ultimately God wants to transform us to be who He created us to be. I can sometimes lose my purpose and focus on the next big game that I’m getting ready for or lose myself in all the video work and weekly rules quizzes I prepare for. As an official we must be bold stepping onto the field or court, but my prayer is that I will be bolder on what truly matters and use those times of fiery trials to be molded into the Christ follower God has called me to be.
Question to Ponder:
How are you displaying BOLD faith in your daily walk?
What fiery trial is going on right now in your life that you need Jesus to show up in a big way?
